Razom, Rev. Jacqui Lewis, Astor Hairstylists among Village Preservation awardees

BY THE VILLAGE SUN | Beloved small businesses, spiritual and artistic leaders and an East Village-based Ukrainian humanitarian-aid organization are among the honorees at this year’s Village Awards.

The coveted awards, bestowed by Village Preservation, will be presented at the organization’s in-person annual meeting and Village Awards ceremony on Tues., June 14, at 6 p.m. at The Cooper Union’s historic Great Hall, at 7 E. Seventh St.

This year’s winners are:

  • Astor Place Hairstylists, 2 Astor Place
  • Bonsignour French bakery and deli, 37 Jane St.
  • Reverend Dr. Jacqui Lewis and Middle Collegiate Church
  • Pageant Print Shop, 69 E. Fourth St.
  • Razom for Ukraine
  • Zinc Jazz Bar, 82 W. Third St.
  • Jane Friedman and Howl! Arts (Regina Kellerman Award)

The annual event, known as “The Oscars of the Village,” will include what’s promised to be a “joyous looking back” at the achievements that the nonprofit Village Preservation has accomplished over the last year.

Iconic performance artist Penny Arcade will emcee and help honor the awardees, with a reception to follow. Village Preservation members will also elect a new and returning slate of trustees. The event is co-hosted by The Cooper Union.

Registration is now open for the event, which will be in person again for the first time since 2019. The evening will abide by The Cooper Union’s COVID protocols for large gatherings.
