Our man in Havana: Milo Hess’s photos of Cuba

BY THE VILLAGE SUN | Award-winning Tribeca photographer Milo Hess recently returned from a week in Cuba.

He was on a People to People tour, taking in the culture and people of the Caribbean Communist Party-ruled nation.

Hess visited Havana, Cienfuegos, Trinidad and Santa Clara. He stayed in local casa particulares (private homes) and met local community groups, musicians and artists.

People were warm gracious,” Hess said. “They had little in the way of material goods. They loved Americans — though the Trump embargo is killing them.

“Average monthly income is $20 to $40 a month,” he added. “But there’s socialized medicine and free education K through college.”
