#ShopBleecker Day to offer deals, sips, nibbles

For the third year in a row, the Greenwich Village-Chelsea Chamber of Commerce is partnering with merchants along Bleecker St. for the #ShopBleecker holiday shopping campaign.

The effort occurs during the entire month of November.

What’s different this year is #ShopBleecker is celebrating the uptick of new businesses along Bleecker St. — close to three dozen of them. Many of these new stores are offering special deals, discounts and giveaways to shoppers.

Also new is #ShopBleecker Day — on Sat., Nov. 23 —  which will see the 10 blocks of the street west of Sixth Ave. transform into a cocktail party. Participating businesses will offer up sips and nibbles to enhance the shopping experience.

The #ShopBleecker campaign is a great way to get a jump on holiday shopping while saving money and supporting unique — and some local — businesses. According to Fast Company, Black Friday has been earlier each year and has now become a month-long event.

The goal is to encourage consumers to support the businesses along Bleecker St. and take advantage of the special in-store events, plus special deals, discounts and the ever-popular raffle. Last year, the total value of prizes in the raffle was close to $14,000.

“We have so much to celebrate,” said Maria Diaz, the chember’s executive director. “Three years ago, state Senator Brad Hoylman released his report ‘Bleaker on Bleecker: A Snapshot of High-Rent Blight.’ Since then, more than two-dozen stores have either arrived or have expanded on the street.

“We are especially delighted to see all the movement brought on by Brookfield and hope to see all our new stores thriving,” Diaz added.

“To revel in this, we have brought in nearly 50 stores — and counting — on the street to work collaboratively to showcase what Bleecker St. has to offer.

“The businesses are very appreciative of all the added exposure we have been able to provide to them in years past, and love that they get to collaborate with their neighboring businesses, building a stronger sense of community and improve the street. From west to east, Bleecker St. will be the destination for fashionistas, foodies and night owls.”

This year’s event is sponsored by Brookfield Properties, Lyft — which will be offering discount codes for riders coming to the street — New York University, Google and the office of City Council Speaker Corey Johnson, plus returning gold-level business sponsors Fly London, Huckberry, Li-Lac Chocolates, Manhattan Walking Tours, Manousheh, Paul Smith, Reiss London and longtime neighborhood business Village Apothecary.

Look for #ShopBleecker decals on the sidewalk in front of participating businesses and visit www.shopbleecker.nyc for a complete list of deals and events.

Artists and musicians from Bob Dylan to Dylan Thomas and Jimi Hendrix to Alicia Keys have appreciated Bleecker St. as a special part of New York City. According to G.V.C.C.C., by patronizing the merchants along the famed Village street, shoppers are reminding everyone that “Bleecker St. is still one of the best places in the city to shop, eat and play.”
