BY THE VILLAGE SUN | A pair of muggers robbed a senior man two blocks north of Washington Square Park early Tuesday morning, police said.

According to police, on Sept. 13, around 4:15 a.m., a 64-year-old Manhattan resident was walking in front of 20 Fifth Ave., at Ninth Street, when two strangers, roughly in their 30s, approached him from behind.

One of the punks held the victim by his throat while the other removed his wallet, containing around $110, credit cards and keys. The perpetrators then fled on foot.

The victim refused medical attention at the scene. A police spokesperson did not say if the individual lives in Greenwich Village’s Sixth Precinct but did say he is a Manhattan resident.

Police released surveillance photos of the two alleged suspects obtained from the vicinity of the robbery.

Police ask that anyone with information call the N.Y.P.D.’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). Unfortunately, the ineptitude of our local government and law enforcement is on full display in this area. I have dealt with a family member suffering from opioid substance abuse and can safely say that they become an entirely different person. The dozens of addicts floating the dozen or so blocks around WSP have made the area unworthy of being patronized. I still walk in the area every day and these people are just rotting to death and committing crimes to sustain their habit. It is pathetic how unresponsive our government is to the problem.
