Man shot near Washington Square Park

An argument led to a shooting less than a block away from Washington Square Park, police said.

According to cops, on Thurs., May 13, around 11:20 p.m., an unidentified man got into an argument with the victim, age 32, on Waverly Place just east of Sixth Ave.

As the dispute turned physical, the man took out a gun and blasted an unknown number of shots at the victim, striking him three times, in the left wrist, left forearm and groin. The shooter then fled on foot in an unknown direction.

The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital by private means and was listed in stable condition.

The suspect wore a black hooded sweatshirt with a picture of the “Mona Lisa” on its front, a dark jacket, black hat, black mask, blue jeans and white sneakers.

    This is a controversial comment; I know it as I post it.

    Stop-and-frisk was / is indefensible.

    But.

    One of the rationales / justifications underpinning it was finding and removing illegal weapons, specifically, illegal guns.

    Any suggestions for a more defensible alternative? I got nothin’.
