BY THE VILLAGE SUN | A Whole Foods Market is reportedly set to open on E. 14th Street in Stuyvesant Town.
Writing in the New York Post, Steve Cuozzo reports that Whole Foods has signed a lease for the space at 409 E. 14th St., between First Avenue and Avenue A, formerly home to an Associated supermarket. The Associated closed in December 2019, right before the start of the pandemic, allegedly due to a rent hike that had it paying $60,000 a month.
Vacant for almost the past four years, the space sports 10,000 square feet on the ground floor and another 10,000 square feet in the basement.
Setting the stage for a potential East Village supermarket war, a popular Trader Joe’s is located directly opposite on the other side of the street.
The Post article did not say exactly when the Whole Foods store is expected to open.
