BY THE VILLAGE SUN | A memorial, preceded by a walking tour, will be held for housing and social-justice activist Harriet Putterman on Sun., Oct. 3.
Putterman died April 11 at age 87. She was a comrade of the late Frances Goldin and was active on housing and tenant issues as a hard-working staffer and board member of the Cooper Square Committee.
A “housing justice” walking tour in her memory will start at 3 p.m. at the northeast corner of Houston Street and Second Avenue. The tour will visit three sites, with community leaders speaking at each one about how Cooper Square Committee stalwart Putterman changed the lives of tenants and formerly homeless people.
The walk will end at St. Mark’s Church, at 131 E. 10th St., with a celebration there of Harriet Puttermans’s life starting at 5 p.m.
