BY THE VILLAGE SUN | Police announced an arrest in a Sept. 4 knifepoint robbery and attempted rape at the Lillian Wald Houses.
Rohel Figueroa, 30, was busted on Sept. 9 and charged with attempted rape, robbery, burglary, sexual abuse and criminal trespass.
Figueroa — who allegedly wore shorts with “Rude” printed in large letters across their front during the attack — lives at 64 Essex St., in the Seward Park Extension, which, like the Wald Houses, is New York City public housing,
According to cops, on Sun., Sept. 4, at 9 a.m., he followed a 53-year-old woman into her building at the Wald Houses on Avenue D, then forced his way into her apartment. Once inside, he brandished a knife and tried to rape her. There was a struggle, during which he managed to tear off some of her clothes, after which he stole the victim’s cell phone and $20 cash and fled.
The victim was transported by E.M.S. to Beth Israel Medical Center for treatment.
Throw away the key.
I don’t think RUDE shorts are approved prison apparel at Rikers. But I hope he passes muster to reside there for an appropriate time instead of being rotated out the bail-reform revolving door.
