Man shot in cheek outside Sara D. Roosevelt Park

BY THE VILLAGE SUN | Police said a 28-year-old man was sitting in his vehicle in front of 51 Chrystie St., between Canal and Hester Streets, on Fri., June 2, around 12:40 a.m., when an unknown male came up and started arguing with him.

As the dispute escalated, the man outside the car yanked out a gun and blasted it repeatedly at the other guy. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the left cheek and a graze wound to the back of his neck.

The shooter fled on foot northward on Chrystie Street.

The victim drove himself to Bellevue Hospital, where he was reported in stable condition. The victim reported there was property damage to his vehicle from the gunfire.

A police spokesperson said there apparently had been “a dispute of unknown nature” between the two men, adding, the victim “is not being very forthcoming.”

The shooting occurred just outside Sara D. Roosevelt Park, which has been plagued by drugs for years.

Would be great if our police force started arresting users and dealers instead of taking this stupidly progressive view that drug users don’t hurt anyone. They absolutely end up committing the majority of our crime. Dealers operate in plain sight here and Washington Square Park. You can sit on a bench for a few hours and figure out who the dealer is.
