BY KEITH J. KELLY | Patrons were rejoining this week as Hane, a popular sushi restaurant in Stuyvesant Town that had been reduced to only takeout orders while a gut renovation took place, partially reopened for outdoor dining this week.
The restaurant, which was a mainstay through the early days of COVID, had shut down its indoor and outdoor dining areas completely in March as renovation for the 250-seat business was underway.
Area residents last week noticed that the outdoor dining had reopened on the E. 20th Street side of the place, which sits on the southeast corner of First Avenue and E. 20th Street. The First Avenue side had not reopened yet, but new outdoor furniture was stacked in the outdoor shed.
A food server last weekend said he still did not know when the full restaurant would reopen. But the dark-green wooden construction shed that had surrounded the structure in recent weeks was taken down as the outdoor brick facade work seemed largely completed even as internal renovations proceeded apace.
A spokesperson for Beam Living, which manages Stuyvestant Town for landlord Blackstone Group, said he had no update yet on the Asian eatery’s grand reopening.
