BY THE VILLAGE SUN | Police from Greenwich Village’s 6th Precinct continue to make drug busts — with a couple of big hauls a week ago at Sixth Avenue and Eighth Street.
Both arrests, on Aug. 9 and Aug. 10, netted crack cocaine, fentanyl-laced heroin and wads of cash.
For the second consecutive day the 6 Precinct Public Safety Team has made an arrest for a person illegally selling narcotics at 6 Ave & West 8 St. West Village residents, business owners and visitors have made it clear that want their streets free of these destructive drugs. pic.twitter.com/mTZOdkz1NK

Deputy Inspector Jason Zeikel, the precinct’s commanding officer, praising the collars, said police will keep it up.
“You’re talking about major drug arrests,” he said.
As he explained it, the small envelopes, sometimes shown with rubber bands around them, contain heroin/fentanyl while the small plastic containers contain crack.
Some locals, though, while glad to see the busts, say they are just a small dent in the larger problem of entrenched drug dealing in the area, including Washington Square Park.
Thanks to the Sixth Precinct for listening to the Community and getting it done!!
Sadly, these clowns will be back out on the street soon.
Where are the Mayor and our elected officials on dealing with this constant issue in our neighborhood?
Whack-a-mole.
Part of solving any drug problem includes reducing the demand side of the equation too. Perhaps the NYPD can arrest the users and judges can order 180 days of mandatory dual-track inpatient treatment? Fentanyl takes months to get off. Many of these people have preexisting mental health challenges too so they need dual-track and safe off ramps after inpatient care. The problem is (and has been) in plain sight for YEARS!
FYI, JJS, I wore Fentanyl patches for almost a year to help with the pain caused by a serious blood cancer. I had no trouble when I stopped using them. I’m not denigrating the dangerous and sometimes fatal effects of the drug when used recreationally, but I’m just sayin’……
Medically prescribed is completely different, Peggy. Google the term PAWS. It can last for a year or more. Most of these people will take months to get over their dependency. They are in a zombie state most days. It’s very sad, and it is well documented how horrible fentanyl-laced drugs are.
All those singles and 5s – are you sure they didn’t arrest a pole dancer instead of a drug dealer
