They haven’t always seen eye to eye on every issue — especially not the 14th St. busway — but Council Speaker Corey Johnson and District Leader Arthur Schwartz can agree that pitching in to help clean up District 3 is a great idea.
Schwartz also happens to be running against Erik Bottcher, Johnson’s chief of staff, in the race to succeed Johnson, who will be term-limited out of office at the end of next year. The West Side district includes the West Village, Hudson Square, Chelsea, Hell’s Kitchen and Hudson Yards.
After a previous Cleanup Day for the district was a success, Johnson sponsored another one for Sat., Sept. 12. He and Schwartz bumped into each other outside the Chelsea-Elliot Houses, at 10th Ave. between 26th and 27th Sts.
Fittingly for Cleanup Day, there were no reports of any political mudslinging.
