BY THE VILLAGE SUN | A pair of armed robbers tried to steal a man’s bag at gunpoint in Washington Square Park on Sunday evening, police said.
According to a police spokesperson, the incident occured around 7:50 p.m. but was not reported until 8:40 p.m.
The 41-year-old victim told cops he was approached by two younger men, one of whom pointed a firearm at him and said he would shoot him if he didn’t hand over his bag. Although the gunman’s sidekick didn’t have a gun himself, he told his partner to shoot the man.
But the potential victim did not comply and ran away. The robbers apparently did not try to chase him because the report made no mention of it.
The spokesperson did not have more details about what kind of bag the man had, if it was a backpack or something else.
The suspects are described as being in their 20s and wearing dark clothes.
