BY THE VILLAGE SUN | Alec Baillie, the bass player of Leftover Crack, the East Village crustcore punk band, died of a lethal mix of heroin and opioids, according to the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner.
The M.E. concluded that Baillie, whose life ended last November, expired as a result of “acute intoxication due to or as a consequence of the combined effects of heroin, fentanyl, buprenorphine and alprazolam.”
The manner of death was listed as “accident.”
Buprenorphine is an opioid used to treat opioid addiction and pain. Fentanyl is a super-powerful opioid painkiller. Alprazolam, known by the brand name Xanax, is used to treat anxiety and panic disorder.
Baillie reportedly died at C-Squat, on Avenue C between Ninth and 10th Sts. Word on the street at the time was that he had been on a “suicide watch.”
After his death Leftover Crack posted a tribute to Baillie that also urged those in despair to reach out for help and listed contact numbers for a suicide hotline and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
