Woman mugged in East Village elevator

A woman was robbed inside an East Village building last weekend, police said.

According to cops, on Sat., Aug. 22, around 4:15 p.m., a male followed the 44-year-old victim into an elevator in a building at First Ave. and E. Third St. As soon as the lift’s door started to close, the man brandished a sharp object, cornered the woman and demanded her property.

The victim complied and gave the mugger her wallet. The perp took $100 in cash from it, then gave the billfold back to her. He walked off the elevator and fled the building in an unknown direction.

From the video, his weapon looks like it could have been a screwdriver or some kind of pick.

The suspect is described as about 5 feet 7 inches tall, and was last seen wearing a white face mask, a black baseball cap with a black Yankees “NY” logo, a white shirt, black pants and white sneakers.

Police provided a photo and video surveillance of the suspect committing the robbery. (Courtesy N.Y.P.D.)
