Panda Express on track for opening at 14th St. and First Ave.

BY THE VILLAGE SUN | When it comes to orange, a certain former president has left a seriously bad taste in people’s mouth. But, thankfully, Panda Express is reclaiming orange and making it palatable once again — with its signature Original Orange Chicken.

The “fast-casual” Chinese food chain is getting set to open a new location at the southwest corner of 14th Street and First Avenue. Through its windows, one can now see that the place is all outfitted and almost ready to go.

Although the Downtown Manhattan intersection often sadly resembles a zonked-out Skid Row, on Monday evening, for a change, no one was slumped against the outside of the soon-to-open eatery. The usual “Thieves Market” corner across the street didn’t look too bad, either, and was mostly empty.

A worker manning the grill at Big Arc Chicken, a nearby halal restaurant, when asked if cops had recently cleared the intersection’s street corners, nodded yes. Asked when Panda Express would be opening, he just said, “Soon.”
