Photo exhibit honors Dennis Edge, Tompkins Square’s ‘Birdman’

Updated Jan. 26, 8 p.m.: A memorial for Dennis Edge, “The Birdman” of Tompkins Square Park, will be held Wed., Feb. 14, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., at Loisaida Inc., at 710 E. Ninth St., between Avenues C and D. However, it is now already filled to capacity.

A longtime East Villager, Edge died Sept. 1 at age 85. You can read his obituary in The Village Sun — illustrated with many of his bird photos — here.

In addition, a bench at Avenue B near Seventh Street in the park has been dedicated in his honor.

There also will be an exhibit during the entire month of February of Edge’s urban bird and wildlife photography at the Loisaida Inc. gallery.
