Loisaida community fridge in the works

It’s a cool idea that just keeps spreading.

The East Village is getting another community fridge. L.E.S. CommUnity Concerns, a local nonprofit, is pitching in to help set up a Loisaida community fridge and pantry at Trinity Lower East Side Lutheran Church, at Ninth St. and Avenue B.

The new fridge launches June 15 and volunteers are needed.

It will operate similarly to the established fridge outside S’Mac, at 12th St. and First Ave., with the mantra of “take what you need, leave what you can.”

The Loisaida fridge’s launch date is set for June 15. The group is looking for volunteers to maintain the refrigerator, connect with local eateries and shops, and pick up donations. Of course, everyone involved in the fridge effort should be “chill.”

Another local community fridge, on Broome St. in the Chinatown area, recently disappeared.
