Holy sheath! Man brains straphanger with samurai sword in wooden scabbard

BY KEITH J. KELLY | Police are seeking the public’s help to identify a man who whacked another subway passenger on the head with a sheath that contained a samuari sword following an argument on a northbound A train on Monday morning.

The unknown male was captured on surveillance video that was distributed by police. He was said to have engaged in an argument with a 29-year-old passenger on the A train as it approached the Chambers St. station.

Both the perpetrator and the victim exited the train, but the dispute turned physical when the stranger bashed the victim in the head with the wooden sheath that contained a sword.

Police said the victim suffered a deep gash to the head and was transported by E.M.S. to New York-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.
