Gunpoint CBD store robbery near Trader Joe’s in Hudson Square

BY THE VILLAGE SUN | The verdict is still out on whether CBD is really worth the hype —but don’t try telling that to an armed robber who recently hit a place selling the trendy hemp oil in Soho. Either that, or he was desperate to smoke some weed.

According to police, on Tues., April 11, around 12:30 a.m., a man entered Smoke CBD Dispensary, at 204 Spring St., between Sixth Avenue and Sullivan Street.

A police press release said the man allegedly “removed marijuana,” then tried to exit without paying.

However, asked what quantity of cannabis the man took, a police spokesperson described it as “$40 of CBD product.” A store surveillance video provided by police shows the man checking out a red pack of flower a.k.a. marijuana bud.

Whatever small amount of pot or CBD that the man took, the store’s door locks electronically and the 39-year-old employee would not let him out. The thief then approached him and brandished a gun, forcing the merchant to unlock the door. He fled eastbound on Spring Street.

The suspect is described as his 20s, around 5’8” tall and a bit hefty at 200 to 220 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black face mask, black jacket, dark pants, and black sneakers.

The smoke-and-CBD store is located directly across the street from God’s Love We Deliver and just across Sixth Avenue from the busy Trader Joe’s supermarket in Hudson Square.
