Good, clean, witchy fun at Hekate Café official opening

With Halloween approaching, there’s one thing you don’t have to be scared of at this East Village bar — a hangover.

There were free samples of elixirs (nonalcoholic drinks) and Halloween cookies for sale at the official opening of Hekate Café and Elixir Lounge on Thursday evening.

Hekate, which had a soft opening in June at 167 Avenue B, between 10th and 11th Streets, is a new “sober bar.” It’s the brainchild of Abby Ehman, who also owns Lucky bar right across the street.

Not only are the elixirs tasty, the are also mixed to provide health benefits. Hekate also offers nonalcoholic beers and champagne.

Hekate is the Greek goddess associated with magic, witchcraft, the moon, knowledge of herbs, ghosts and sorcery.
