With musical bells and free warm drinks, the Elizabeth St. Garden will enliven the winter solstice on Sat., Dec. 21, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Make Music NY will stop by the sculpture-festooned garden, between Spring and Prince Sts., with their Bell by Bell parade, putting on an interactive soundscape. People are invited to BYOB (Bring Your Own Bell) and join the ethereal “jam.”
There will be free warm drinks for everyone.
Joseph Reiver, the head of the nonprofit that runs the garden, said he is also planning “a small surprise” for the community in light of the holidays.
The winter solstice marks the first day of winter and is also the day with the least amount of sunlight in the Northern Hemisphere.
“The winter solstice is all about welcoming back the sunlight of longer days, so I figured what better place to have a story than The Village Sun,” Reiver told this paper.
In addition, the garden announced that Patagonia, the outdoor clothing store, which has a Soho outlet nearby, is matching all donations made to E.S.G. through its Action Network.
“The campaign is doing really well so far!” Reiver said.
