East Village deli worker attacked

A man assaulted an East Village deli clerk after the two got into a verbal dispute, police said.

On Mon., April 20, around 6:10 a.m., the attacker entered the store, at 24 Avenue A, near E. Second St., and started acting disorderly and causing property damage to the place, according to cops.

The clerk, 47, and the individual then got into a verbal altercation. The man exited the place, but the worker followed him outside, where the other man picked up a hard object and slammed him in the head with it, cutting him and causing bleeding.

The individual fled on foot eastbound on E. Second St. E.M.S. responded and transported the victim to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition.

Police provided surveillance photos of the suspect from inside the location during the incident.
