BY THE VILLAGE SUN | Stomping on red MAGA hats and gleefully waving “GUILTY” signs, Donald Trump haters exulted outside the Lower Manhattan courts after the 45th president was convicted of falsifying business records to hide his sleazy romp with porn star Stormy Daniels nearly two decades ago.
One beaming woman proudly sported a tiara with a cutout of Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan district attorney who brought the risky case against the ex-president. The message on her shirt blared, “FINALLY,” as in, at last Trump had been convicted of something, followed by “(mofo),” as in, well…her opinion of the contentious pol. She also wore a Palestinian watermelon slice pin over an Israeli flag pin, though it wasn’t clear what that meant.
There were also some pro-Trumpers mixed in among the circus-like scene.
After the verdict, the presumptive G.O.P. presidential candidate, as he has done before, slammed the case as “rigged” and a “witch hunt,” blustered there should have been a change of venue since he won only 15 percent of the vote in Manhattan in the 2020 election, and bashed the judge, Juan Merchan, as a “devil” doing the dirty work of Democrats.
He plans to appeal the ruling.
Although Trump officially is now a convicted felon, he can keep running for president.
I have relatives in town visiting from Europe. Went to pick them up at their hotel this morning and on 22th and 7th were two gigantic Trump trucks in traffic, with the flags, the body wraps, the whole nine yards. The lead guy had a bullhorn and was leaning out the window shouting pro-Trump sh*t, so of course I bounded out to the middle of the street, stood right in front of them, repeatedly flipped them off with both hands, and keep screaming “F*ck you, racist assholes!” until traffic started to move. Most enjoyable. But it was shocking to see them here in the city, I will admit.
