Photographer Q. Sakamaki was in Times Square on New Year’s Eve to capture the excitement of the moment as it turned 2023. To quote Prince, they were partying like it’s 1999.
Sakamaki was not near the police checkpoint at 52nd Street and Eighth Avenue, where around 10 p.m. a young, radicalized Islamic convert from Maine wielding a machete tried to kill a young cop, so did not get any photos of the crime scene.
