Instead of its usual celebration of the traditional Day of the Dead with an outdoor festival of Mexican culture in the East Yard of St. Mark’s Church in the Bowery, this year Mano a Mano has mounted on the church’s fence colorful paper skulls with names of people lost to COVID-19.
The display, known as an ofrenda, or offering altar, is on Second Ave. between 10th and 11th Sts. It went up on Oct. 30 and will remain on view through Nov. 15.
The church remains closed due to the pandemic.
