Young muggers rob runner on East River Park jogging path

BY THE VILLAGE SUN | A jogger on an early-evening run in East River Park was outnumbered by a group of young robbers who brandished a knife and fleeced him of his phone and wallet, police said.

According to cops, on Tues., March 8, around 8:15 p.m. a 46-year-old man was running through the park at F.D.R. Drive and E. Houston Street, when four teens ran up to him. As one of them flashed a blade, they stole his possessions, including his wallet containing a Chase credit card.

The robbers fled on foot, later using the victim’s plastic to buy things at a convenience store about 10 blocks away at 72 Clinton St., at Rivington Street.

The victim was uninjured.

According to police, the suspects are all around 13 to 15 years old.

Police released surveillance photos and video of the alleged suspects using the credit card to buy candy, snacks and beverages at the store after the incident. All of them wore hooded sweatshirts or jackets, one with a large white Nike swoosh across the chest and white stripes down the arms.
