Woman shot in neck at Vladeck Houses probably knew her killer: Police

BY THE VILLAGE SUN | Police on Friday evening announced that a woman who was fatally shot in the Vladeck Houses a week earlier was the victim of a homicide.

The case had previously been classified as an “Investigate DOA,” or “dead on arrival.”

On Thurs., Nov. 11, shortly after 10:15 p.m., police responded to a 911 call of an assault with a weapon at 364 Madison St. They found the victim, age 27, inside a hallway of the Lower East Side public-housing building with a gunshot wound to her neck.

An E.M.S. ambulance transported the woman to New York Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

The city’s medical examiner subsequently determined that the cause of death was homicide.

Police know the slain woman’s identity but are not releasing her name publicly yet pending proper notification of her family first.

A police spokesperson said it’s believed that, before the fatal shooting, the victim was involved in a dispute with someone she probably knew.

“It does not seem to be a random attack,” he said.

There are no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing.
