BY THE VILLAGE SUN | Police said a young woman was assaulted and raped after entering a Soho building in the early hours of Sunday morning.
According to police, on April 21, around 4:10, a stranger followed the 23-year-old victim inside a residential building at Thompson and Prince Streets.
A surveillance video of the alleged suspect shows him pretending to saunter past the building, then quickly doubling back and following someone inside — possibly the victim — as he yanks a black mask up over the bottom part of his face to hide his identity.
A police spokeswoman said the attacker assaulted the victim, putting her in a chokehold, and raped her.
“He caused physical hurt,” she said. “He actually physically hurt her, too.”
She said the rape did not occur inside an apartment but “somewhere by the stairwell.”
The spokesperson said that, based on the information she had immediately at hand, it wasn’t clear whether the woman lives in the building. She also did not have more information on the extent of the woman’s injuries from the assault.
Afterward, the attacker fled southbound on Thompson Street.
E.M.S. responded and transported the victim to a local area hospital for medical evaluation.
The suspect is described as having a slim build and was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with red lettering that forms a heart shape, gray pants with white stripes down the sides and orange sneakers.

Other than what he was wearing and that he was “slim,” it would be helpful to have a better description of the perp.
So now it’s graduated from random punches to violent rape.
