The National Arts Club, in association with the Mexican Cultural Institute, will celebrate Mexico’s rich cultural heritage on Sat., June 18, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
As part of the summerlong Festival of New York, Ballet Folklorico Mexicano de Nueva York and Mariachi Real de Mexico will share the history and cultural diversity of Mexico through live music, dance, songs and elegant costumes.
The Mariachi Real de Mexico will perform on the stoop of the National Arts Club, at 15 Gramercy Park South, at 1 p.m. Then the dancers, accompanied by Mariachi Real de Mexico, will move indoors to perform traditional dances from the states of Veracruz and Jalisco and the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.
Traditional costumes of the eight regions of the state of Oaxaca, Mexico, are also on display.
The event is free through a Cultural Immigration Initiative grant from City Councilmember Carlina Rivera. The program is supported, in part, by public funds from the city’s Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
