Viral New York: Now that’s a mask!

Coronavirus is seriously scary. But RJ Coté, of Seabreeze Computer Services, The Village Sun’s tech guru, is looking pretty protected amid the pandemic pandemonium.

The Lower East Sider sent the paper these photos of himself in his ’hood sporting an Israeli gas mask he picked up back in 2003 at Kaufman’s Army and Navy, on W. 42nd St.

“I still have unused cans and am prepared for real, no kidding,” he said, referring to the canisters the mask uses to filter the air.

Hey, how do you eat popcorn with this thing on? RJ Coté is ready for the movies — but the movies are not ready for him. The city’s cinemas have been shut down to stop the spread of coronavirus. (Courtesy RJ Coté)

“Let’s go to the movies!” he captioned the pix, one of them taken at the Regal Essex Crossing cineplex.  The other was snapped in front of St. Mary’s Church, on Grand St.

While sporting a heavy-duty mask like Coté’s might offer some protection — and definitely elicit some goofy double takes — it’s best to follow officials’ and health experts’ advice right now and not go outside except for essential reasons.
