The Village Sun is shining on St. Mark’s Place thanks to Jim Power, the East Village’s legendary “Mosaic Man.”
In the immortal, schmaltzy words of Barry Manilow — looks like we made it!
Power is still working on this particular lamp post, at the corner of Third Ave., and obviously needs to add more tiles and grout to finish the job up right. Many of the pole’s other panels include local businesses.
The Mosaic Man also plans to add a panel to it for the late restaurateur Lucian Bahaj — of Pink Pony and Lucien fame — who died in July at age 74.
It’s all part of Power’s iconic “Mosaic Trail” of decorated lamp posts that wend through the East Village. As he’ll readily tell you, it’s one of New York’s top attractions!
this is a powerful message and tells of the connection with our neighbors and the spot that is filled by this website and news source. Big THANKS to the crew and specially Lincoln for bringing an honest perspective of local events.
