Police: Youths break 72-year-old man’s jaw in Chelsea in anti-gay attack

BY THE VILLAGE SUN | Police are asking for the public’s help in finding four youths in connection with what’s being investigated as a hate crime assault last month in Chelsea’s 10th Precinct.

Police said that on Fri., Sept. 15, around 10:15 p.m., a 72-year-old man was at W. 17th Street and Ninth Avenue when he was approached by four unknown males. The individuals allegedly made anti-L.G.B.T.Q. statements and then punched, kicked and used items to strike the victim on his head and body. The punks then fled on foot and were seen entering 420 W. 19th St., in the Robert Fulton Houses.

The victim suffered a broken jaw and cuts to his face and hands, according to police. He went to an area hospital by private means.

One of the individuals cops are seeking is described as heavyset while the other three have slim builds.

The N.Y.P.D.’s Hate Crime Task Force is investigating this incident.

    Not surprised. Nothing is being done with these punk teens. They know they can’t be arrested. They know cops can’t do anything. It will only get worse. Who will pay for that man’s medical bills? How will he eat with a broken jaw? And look how smug they all are in that photo. Gay bashing in NYC?
