Police search for suspect in two attempted sexual assaults

BY THE VILLAGE SUN | Police are searching for a suspect wanted in two attempted, broad-daylight sexual assaults on New Year’s Eve, one in Greenwich Village.

The individual has been identified as Christopher Marrero, 23.

According to police, on Sun., Dec. 31, around 10:10 a.m., around 16th Street and Fifth Avenue, the suspect followed a 21-year-old woman, grabbed her and tried to drag her into a secluded area. But the woman was able to break free and flee. The attacker fled on foot along Fifth Avenue.

Shortly afterward, around noon, in the vicinity of 14th Street and Fifth Avenue, Marrero allegedly followed a 24-year-old female, forcibly entering a restroom she went into and trying to remove her clothing. The victim again was able to escape, exiting the restroom and the suspect again fled on foot along Fifth Avenue.

A police spokesperson did not immediately have more information on exactly where the bathroom was located or what kind of premises it was.

Neither woman required medical attention as a result of the incidents.

Police did not provide any further information about the suspect beyond his name, age and surveillance photos.

In addition, on Dec. 28, police announced an arrest in a separate forcible touching/sexual abuse pattern. Feliks Kabiev, 37, described as homeless, was arrested and charged at the Fifth Precinct with three counts of forcible touching.

In the first incident, on Mon., Nov. 27, around 12:20 p.m., Kabiev is accused of approaching a 35-year-old woman walking at Cooper Square and Third Avenue and grabbing her breasts over her clothes before fleeing.

About a week later, he allegedly struck in Midtown, when on Sun., Dec. 3, around 2:45 p.m., he approached a 34-year-old woman walking at Park Avenue and 41st Street and touched her breasts over her clothes before fleeing.

Then, on Sat., Dec. 9, around 4:50 p.m., the same man reportedly approached a 35-year-old woman walking at Fifth Avenue and Ninth Street, placing his hand on her private area over her clothes before fleeing.

There were no reported injuries from the three incidents.
