Police ‘aggressively targeting’ drug dealers in and around Washington Square Park

BY THE VILLAGE SUN | Police from Greenwich Village’s 6th Precinct, as well as Patrol Borough Manhattan South, continue to make drug arrests in and around Washington Square Park, including along the Sixth Avenue corridor.

“We’ve heard the community speak out, and during my tenure as the commanding officer here, we’ve been targeting drug dealers,” said Captain Jason Zeikel.

“Kudos to Narcotics for the takedown in Washington Square Park,” Zeikel said, referring to Narcotics Borough Manhattan South’s recent bust of nine dealers for allegedly selling cocaine and magic mushrooms in the park.

“My team continues to be aggressive in targeting drug dealers along Sixth Avenue and inside Washington Square Park,” the C.O. stated. “No one should feel comfortable selling drugs in the confines of the 6th Precinct.”

Precinct officers also last month cleaned out the merchandise from an unlicensed weed shop that allegedly sold to an underaged person.
