BY THE VILLAGE SUN | Updated June 29, 1 a.m.: “Err…we gotta a phony 5-Oh on the R train! Come in! Over!”

“What tha…?!”

Police said that on Sun., June 23, around 6:35 p.m., at the Whitehall Street – South Ferry subway station on the northbound R train platform at the Battery, a man wearing a New York Police Department shield on a chain around his neck was stopping commuters from entering the transit system and trying to detain them while falsely identifying himself as a cop.

He wore an Police Department detective shield. (N.Y.P.D.)

One straphanger he tried to stop, a 46-year-old man, started to walk away from him, but the bogus N.Y.P.D. Blue blasted a can of pepper spray at the back of the victim’s head. The fake fuzz then hopped onto a train and fled.

The victim, who suffered burning and swelling to his face, traveled by private means to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition, where he was treated and released.

According to police, the wanted man is Dominic Ogrady, age 35. He was last seen wearing ripped denim shorts, a black-and-yellow T-shirt, a yellow hat and an N.Y.P.D. detective shield embossed with No. 694.

“10-4. Yeah, I got this R train under control. No prob. Over!” (N.Y.P.D.)

Well, this is what happens when the city lets everyone do whatever they want. No bail money required. Just back out on the street in a matter of hours. Why wouldn’t criminals continue? There are no consequences.
