Man attacks 70-year-old sweeping East Village sidewalk: Police

Police said that on Tues., June 18, around 2:30 p.m., a 70-year-old man was sweeping the sidewalk in front of 108 E. Fourth Street, between First and Second Avenues, when a stranger approached and punched him multiple times in the head.

The attacker fled on foot, heading westbound toward Second Avenue.

The victim suffered minor injuries and was transported by E.M.S. ambulance to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition.

The suspect is described as 6 feet 2 inches tall and around 180 pounds, last seen wearing a white tank top and with a green laundry bag and red backpack.

A tip leading to an arrest and indictment can result in a reward of up to $3,500.
