State Senator Brad Hoylman earned the endorsement of Congressmember Jerry Nadler on Tuesday for Manhattan borough president.
Nadler, the chairperson of the House Judiciary Committee is known as the “Liberal Lion” of the New York Congressional delegation. Hoylman’s campaign declared that the veteran representative’s endorsement “locks down the West Side” for Hoylman.
“Brad Hoylman has been the driving force behind some of the most consequential state legislation in a generation,” Nadler said. “On issues ranging from tenant protection to L.G.B.T.Q. rights to reproductive freedom to gun safety, Brad truly has done more. And I know he’ll do more — for our schools, for affordable housing, and to lead Manhattan’s recovery — as our next borough president.”
“Jerry Nadler’s endorsement is the holy grail of Manhattan politics,” Hoylman said. “Congressman Nadler is a hero to progressives on the West Side, and across the entire country. He’s been called the ‘General Counsel of the Resistance,’ and I could not be more proud to have his support for Manhattan borough president.”
According to his campaign, Hoylman is the only candidate with political club and elected official support from the southernmost Downtown to the northernmost Uptown neighborhoods and the East and West sides. Hoylman has also earned major labor support from the teachers union (UFT), firefighters (UFA), EMS workers (Local 2507), IATSE Local 52 and social workers (NASW-PACE).
With fewer than eight weeks until election day, Hoylman is in a strong position. His campaign has capped out on fundraising and started digital and TV ads before any of his opponents.
Nadler claims Hoylman was the driving force behind many legislations. The voters have a right to know Hoylman was also the driving force behind stopping the only law to save small businesses, the Small Business Jobs Survival Act. Hoylman did not want to give any small business owners any rights when their leases expired. Instead, he was the driving force to keep the status quo for his campaign donors. Maybe he can do another fake study to stall any real lifeline to save our businesses.
