LES smoke shops getting burned by armed robberies

BY THE VILLAGE SUN | Robbers in separate incidents stuck up a pair of Lower East Side smoke shops at gunpoint in recent weeks. So far police are not connecting the two incidents.

In the first robbery, police said that on Sat., Oct. 1, five minutes before 3 a.m., three males entered Allen Convenience Exotic Smoke, at 99 Allen St., and approached a 23-year-old male employee. One of the trio displayed a firearm and they demanded cash. They made off with $1,500 and fled west on Eldrige Street.

In the second incident, on Mon., Oct. 17, around 7:15 p.m., a man burst into The Goodies Smoke Shop, at 1 Kenmare Street, just west of Bowery, while pointing a gun at a 24-year-old female employee. He held out a brown paper shopping bag, telling her to put cash and goods into it. He fled with $250, plus $300 in merchandise.

There were no injuries reported. In both robberies, the suspects were masked and wore dark clothes.
