Jewelry bag subway switcheroo in Chinatown

Police said that on Nov. 28, around 2:10 p.m., inside the Canal Street and Broadway subway station, a 52-year-old man was trying to remove a MetroCard from his wallet when he placed his bookbag containing $150,000 worth of jewelry on the ground.

An unknown woman alerted him that he had dropped money in front of him. After he picked up the money, he realized that his bag was gone and had been replaced with a bag he did not recognize.

Police are asking anyone with information on either incident to call the N.Y.P.D.’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
