BY THE VILLAGE SUN | Updated May 30, 1 a.m.: An East Village man was stabbed to death Saturday night just a few blocks from where he lived, police said.
Around 10:15 p.m., officers responded to a 10-34 — code for “assault in progress” — in front of 381 E. 10th St., between Avenues B and C. They found a 31-year-old man with numerous stab wounds to his body and a 28-year-old man with a stab wound to the back.
The older man was identified as Michael Gillegbower, who lived at 1223 F.D.R. Drive, between 12th and 13th Streets, in the Jacob Riis Houses. He was transported by E.M.S. to Mount Sinai Beth Israel, where he was pronounced dead.
The 28-year-old, ID’d as Quan Alford of Brownsville, Brooklyn, was arrested at the scene and taken by E.M.S. to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition. On late Sunday afternoon he was charged with manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.
The Daily News reported that, according to police sources, a fight was sparked when the two men bumped into each other, and both pulled out their knives.
