Hit the books… Don’t hit with the book

BY THE VILLAGE SUN | If he’s caught, will a judge throw the book at this guy?

Police said that on Mon., Aug. 19, around 9:33 p.m., an 18-year-old woman was walking past 24 W. 25th Street, just west of Madison Square Park, when a shirtless man approached her.

For reasons not immediately clear, the stranger hit the young woman in the face with a book, causing pain, bruising and swelling to her nose, then fled on foot, heading eastbound on 25th Street.

The victim was not hospitalized.

It wasn’t apparent what prompted the attack — or if the tome was hardcover or paperback.

The suspect is described as having a slim build. He was last seen wearing gray shorts and white sneakers, with a white T-shirt flung over his shoulder and a book inside his waistband.

Police ask that anyone with information call the N.Y.P.D.’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). Tips can also be submitted on the Crime Stoppers Web site at crimestoppers.nypdonline.org or on X at @NYPDTips. All tips are strictly confidential.
