BY THE VILLAGE SUN | The N.Y.P.D. Hate Crime Task Force is investigating the robbery of a woman’s Israel flag in West Midtown.
According to cops, on Fri., April 12, around 5 p.m., a 19-year-old woman was on the busy commercial strip in front of 39 W. 34th St., just east of Herald Square, when two strangers — a woman and a man — approached her, and forcibly yanked an Israeli flag away from her.
The flag filchers fled on foot eastbound on W. 34th. They both sported head coverings: a hijab on the woman and a keffiyeh on the man.
The victim refused medical assistance at the scene.
A police spokesperson confirmed it was an Israeli flag that was stolen, but did not have details on the flag’s size. She said there was no information about any hateful words being uttered during the theft.

Why is The Village Sun preoccupied with pro-Israel folks and not the protesters who hate the unspeakable crimes being committed by Israel, and are being dragged and violently detained by the cops? Whoever took the Israel flag from this woman was wrong, to be sure. But look at the way babies and mothers are being blown to bits and buried under rubble in Gaza, and The Village Sun focuses on a woman whose Israel flag was stolen. And Harry Pincus, who’s a hypocrite if there ever was one. I, too, marched in protest against the Vietnam War. I didn’t turn into a Zionist, or whatever Pincus calls himself.

If someone was walking around with an anarchist, Palestinian, American or Confederate flag and the person they took it from was not harmed, do you think the NYPD would be investigating it as a hate crime? Hell no, and this sets a bad legal precedent.
I agree. DN had an excellent guest this morning who spoke on the topic. That said, no filching or any interactions of this kind.
However, we have to examine our inability to carry on a debate, even if heated, without causing bodily harm.
This would be a good time to make Non-Violent Communication training (NVC) mandatory in colleges and in world government.
