BY THE VILLAGE SUN | A sea of blue-and-white Israeli flags flew at Central Park’s Naumberg Band Shell on Sunday, as a massive crowd rallied to call for the release of all hostages still being held by Hamas after the terrorist group’s brutal Oct. 7 attack.
The “Bring Them Home Now” event was held to mark 150 days in captivity for the estimated more than 100 hostages, including some Americans, who are still being held. Hamas is also believed to be holding the remains of 30 other hostages.
The band shell area was filled to overflowing. There was a heavy police presence. Speakers from the stage included family members of hostages. At the end, everyone marched off through the park.
Sponsoring organizations of the event included the United Jewish Federation of New York, the Anti-Defamation League, the American Jewish Committee New York, #EndJewHatred and numerous synagogues, among others.
Around 1,200 Israelis were killed and 240 hostages seized in the bloody Oct. 7 surprise attack, which set off the current war. Israel says it has since killed 12,000 Hamas fighters, and is bent on wiping out the entire terrorist organization. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, which is under Hamas control, more civilians than that have been killed, with total combined casualties amounting to more than 30,000.
