BY THE VILLAGE SUN | Police have made a collar in a fatal shooting in the East Village earlier this month.
The alleged gunman and the victim — both in their 20s — lived less than two blocks away from each other.
According to cops, on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. Tyler Hall-Canale, 21, of 3 Haven Plaza, was arrested at the Ninth Precinct. He was charged with murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
Hall-Canale is accused of gunning down Dillin Tolentino, 26, of 601 E. 12th St., on Sept. 1, around 1:30 p.m.
The New York Post said the victim had just walked out of a nearby apartment building before he was slain. A local resident told The Village Sun that the shooting was in front of P.S. 34 and the Haven Plaza playground — which are right outside the alleged murderer’s home.
E.M.S. transported Tolentino to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Post previously reported that the victim was an alleged member of the Money Boy Gang, who was paroled last year in connection with an attempted murder conviction. The tabloid said his attacker rode up on a Citi Bike and blasted Tolentino in the head. The killer then reportedly strode back and forth beside the fallen man’s body, then kicked him repeatedly in the head.
After the shooting, the gunman allegedly dumped the Citi Bike at the scene and fled on foot.
