Coinciding with the LUNGS Harvest Festival, the Museum of Reclaimed Urban Space is kicking off an environmentally conscious film series this Friday through Sunday in East Village gardens.
As a COVID safety measure, attendees must preregister on Eventbrite and wear face masks. All events start at 7 p.m.
Dubbed “Reel Ecologies: Films for a Sustainable City,” MoRUS’s eighth annual moviepalooza starts Friday evening Oct. 2 at Peachtree Community Garden, at 236 E. Second St., with docu-shorts about New York City urban agriculture. This will be followed by a screening of “Soylent Green,” the 1973 dystopian thriller starring Charlton Heston and Edward G. Robinson in his final role.
Returning to Peachtree Community Garden, Saturday’s event features films on the topic of “food justice,” and includes a conversation with Marisa Dedominicis from Earth Matter NY.
On Sun., Oct. 4, Green Oasis Community Garden, at 370 E. Eighth St., will be the setting for a screening of a honeybees documentary, plus the film “Dirt,” about Lower East Side community gardens in the 1990s. A beekeeper will give an introduction.
The film series concludes Fri., Oct. 9, in Le Petit Versailles Garden, at 247 E. Second St., with “Insects and Flowersex,” featuring mixed-media shorts and live sounds.
