On Nov. 20, local politicos and Villagers gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at McCarthy Square for the installation of nearly three dozen historic Bishop’s Crook-style street light posts.
The new lights — along Seventh Ave. South and surrounding side streets — replace the non-contextual “cobra head” ones that had been there before, and are a much better fit for the heart of the landmarked Greenwich Village Historic District.
Assemblymember Deborah Glick and Erik Bottcher, Council Speaker Corey Johnson’s chief of staff, led the ceremony, along with local block association leaders, Community Board 2 members and Ed Pincar, the Manhattan borough commissioner of the Department of Transportation.
