Holiday lights on the north end of the subway island at Astor Place twinkle in the night. The best viewing spot is medium distance: If you get too close, you’ll lose the snowflake illusion. This is actually a tasteful holiday light display, in our humble opinion. It was a “silent night,” mostly, except for the skateboarder rolling by on rattling wheels while engrossed by the light of his or her own cell phone. The Village Alliance Business Improvement District is responsible for the lights. As a BID source told us, “A big display isn’t in our budget but I think this is much more unobtrusively charming.” (Photo by The Village Sun)
