BY THE VILLAGE SUN | Updated Dec. 3, 1:45 p.m.: Police on Friday made an arrest in a fatal stabbing in Chinatown that occurred two nights earlier.
Gianluca Bordone, 19, of Oyster Bay, New York, was arrested in the death of Rocco Rodden, 17, of Warren, New Jersey.
Bordone was charged with manslaughter and assault.
According to police, on Wed., Nov. 23, around 1:50 a.m., officers responded to a 911 call of a male stabbed at 96 Lafayette St., between Walker and White Streets. They found two males, a 17-year-old and a 19-year-old, both with stab wounds to the torso. The victims were taken by E.M.S. ambulance to Bellevue Hospital, where the younger of the two was pronounced dead and the older was in stable condition.
As for what sparked the violence, a police spokesperson said it was basically a case of two groups getting into a fight. He said the individuals did not know each other previously and that the incident was not gang related.
The Daily News subsequently reported that the victim and suspect had both left a private party at Live Axe, an axe-throwing bar at the location, and that a fight then broke out on the sidewalk in front. The 19-year-old who was also stabbed is the victim’s brother. Their sister was also at the scene with them.
The News said that Rodden and Bordone were fighting with each other, as people were drinking on the sidewalk, when Bordone pulled a knife and lashed out at the two brothers.
At the suspect’s arraignment, bail was set at $4 million cash or $12 million bond and he was being held at Rikers Island.
