BY THE VILLAGE SUN | In the latest electric-powered CitiBike close call, a teenager riding one of the speedy two-wheelers was struck by a commercial van on Avenue C near E. 11th Street on Thurs., Oct. 5, at 8:50 a.m.
Local photojournalist Chris Ryan was on the scene to get photos.
“He seemed in shock,” Ryan said of the youth.
The young man’s distraught father showed up and the son was put in an ambulance to get checked out — though, luckily, he seemed O.K.
According to the CitiBike user agreement, individuals under age 16 cannot legally use the bike-share program. A minor (over age 16 but under age 18) may only use a CitiBike if his or her subscription is purchased by the minor’s parent or legal guardian and the minor is under that person’s responsibility.
Just watched a young man speeding down Ave C on a scooter with his toddler child propped on his lap, holding on with one hand to the kid and one hand on the steering bar. No helmets. At night… I said a prayer.
COMPLETE BULLSHIT. Minors as young as 9 & 10 are regularly riding Citibike (including the motorized variety) through major avenue traffic. This is so pervasive that CITIBIKE MUST BE HELD LIABLE & NEGLIGENT as they make no provision to keep them off

But see a lot more teens on eCitibike and many seem under 16.
Teens (like adults) go through red lights, go the wrong way.
No helmets.
Teens also double-up with friends in the front basket.
